Opis

The municipality of Rogatec was founded on 6th November 1994, when five municipalities separated from the former municipality of Ĺ marje pri Jelšah. It covers an area of 40 square kilometres and is one of the smallest municipalities in Slovenia. It comprises nine settlements: Brezovec pri Rogatcu, Dobovec pri Rogatcu, Donačka Gora, Log, Rogatec, Sv. Jurij, Tlake, Trlično and Žahenberc. The settlements form three local communities, i.e. Dobovec, Donačka Gora and Rogatec. It borders Croatia: there is an international border crossing at Dobovec and a local border crossing at Rogatec, only for Slovenian and Croatian citizens. The municipality of Rogatec is situated in the south-eastern part of Slovenia. It covers the area where the southward facing hillsides of the Haloze, overgrown with vines, turn into the green valley of Posotelje. In the little region, squeezed between Donačka gora in the north and the River Sotla in the south, are hidden rare but precious jewels of natural, cultural and historical heritage. The area is known to have been an important trade and transportation crossroads in the past. Thanks to its favourable location on the territory where the alpine world gives way to the Pannonian plain, Rogatec, with its 700-year possession of market town rights, is classed as one of the oldest market towns in Slovenia.
