The municipality of Preddvor was founded as one of the successors of the former municipality of Kranj and it comprises the territory, which it possessed at the end of 1998, when Jezersko separated from Preddvor and founded its own municipality. The municipality of Preddvor lies in the central part of the Gorenjska region. In the north, it borders the municipality of Jezersko, in the east Kamnik, in the south Cerklje and Ĺ enčur and in the south-west the urban municipality of Kranj.
The beauties of nature offer the area a possibility to develop and to enrich the tourist trade. It also has a favourable geographical position with excellent accessibility (proximity of the airport, motorway and the Jezersko border crossing), lush vegetation, fauna and unpolluted water. On the slopes around Storžič and Grintavec, you can go walking, mountaineering and hunting, or simply observe nature. Below the mountains, there is an enormous stock of first class drinking water, which has been exploited by the local people and the neighbouring areas for years. There are not many places in Slovenia, which can boast such a rich historical and cultural tradition. Numerous archaeological findings (Gradišče nad Bašljem, Vrtačnik, Sveti Jakob), four castles (Pusti, Turn, Hrib and Dvor castle) and many priceless sacral buildings (including the churches at Breg and Mače) bear witness to the rich lives of people on the sunny side of the Kamniško Savinjske Alps. A series of well-known names, such as Josipina Urbančič of Turnograd, the first Slovenian female poet, Lovro Pintar and Matija Valjavec, bear witness to a rich cultural tradition. Local cultural workers help to preserve old customs, especially the age-old local dances, traditional wedding customs and “snarjenje” (bringing hay home from Zaplata).
The municipality of Preddvor boasts good restaurants and accommodation facilities, with a number of playgrounds, a shooting range and launch sites for paragliders and hang-gliders. There are also limitless possibilities for horse riding and cycling, and last but not least there is Lake čŒrnava, where it is possible to swim or row a boat.
