Opis |
The municipality of Osilnica has the smallest population in Slovenia, and covers an area of 3,611 hectares. Its average density is ten inhabitants per square kilometre. After the reorganization of the local government, the municipality was founded in 1995, and comprises 19 hamlets, of which Osilnica is the centre. The River Kolpa makes its way through a deep canyon. At the confluence of the Kolpa and the čabranka, the valley becomes wider and embraces the Osilniško polje – a flat area further down the river, where it opens two more times. There the settlements were built alongside the fields and pastures at the bottom of the valley, or squeezed on terraces or gentle hills. Due to restricted space for fields, people were forced to build small settlements by the road at the bottom of the valley (Sela pri Osilnici, Osilnica, Ribjek, Ložec, Grintovec, Bosljiva Loka and Mirtoviči), and nucleated villages on terraces (Žurge, Belica, Bezgovica, Zgornji čačič, Padovo and Strojiči). Only the buildings at the bottom of the valley have kept their original form, since the rest of the houses were burnt down by the Italians in 1942. |
