Opis

Mirna Peč is a young municipality, which was founded in 1999 when it separated from the urban municipality of Novo Mesto, which it borders in the south and south-east, the municipality of Trebnje in the west, north and north-east, and in a very narrow zone in the south-west the municipality of Žužemberk. Geographically, the municipality of Mirna Peč consists of three valleys: the Globodolska, the Mirnopeška and the Ĺ entjurska. There is little flat land, most of it in the Globodolska valley, by the River Temenica and a narrow belt along the main road in the Ĺ entjur valley. A little less than half of the region is arable land, of which only a part is on the flat land, with most on the terraces that lie higher up. Half of the region is covered with mixed forests. The Temenica flows through the Mirna Peč valley, surfacing in Zijalo and then going back underground at Dno below Goriška vas. Zijalo is becoming an increasingly popular tourist destination as it is the most beautiful patch of unspoilt countryside in the lower part of the Temenica valley. The most important economic branch is textile production, and the manufacturing of leather and fur garments.
Farming is one of the most important activities in the municipality. According to statistics from the year 2000, there are 312 registered farms, which cultivate 1,475 hectares of land. The most important farming branches are: cattle breeding, wine and fruit growing, and production of wheat and other crops.
