Opis

The Lukovica municipality became an independent local community after the reorganization of the local government in 1995. Geographically it comprises the territory of čŒrni graben, which is skirted by the Tuhinjska and the Moravška valleys from the north and the south. The creation of čŒrni graben was strongly influenced by the River Radomlja, which cut its meandering river bed into the southern slopes of the Trojane anticlinal fold. The Radomlja, whose source is below Učak at Trojane, and its torrents flow into the Rača south of Dob. Due to the water flowing over the dark Permian slate that colours the ground almost black, the area was named čŒrni graben (the Black Creek). The Lukovica municipality spreads over the territory between Prevoje pri Ĺ entvidu in the west, to Trojane in the east, where it borders the Savinja valley. This is also where the old boundary line between the Gorenjska and the Ĺ tajerska regions used to be. The characteristic elongated shape of the narrow čŒrni graben valley, which is 20 kilometres long, and on average four kilometres wide, prevented the rise of a central settlement, which, at the same time, could be the sociopolitical, economic and cultural centre. As a result of this, in the course of history, several nucleated settlements rose up along the main road through čŒrni graben, such as: Prevoje pri Ĺ entvidu, Ĺ entvid pri Lukovici, Lukovica, Krašnja, Blagovica, Ĺ entožbolt and Trojane. A number of settlements and remote farms developed on the north bank of the Radomlja: Rafolče, Zlato polje, Koreno, Krajno brdo, čŒešnjice etc. The water power of the Radomlja was often used to drive water mills and sawmills, most of which have unfortunately now stopped operating. The main development of čŒrni graben depends on the traffic connection, which has existed along the Radomlja valley since prehistoric times. In Roman times, the famous Aquilea (Oglej)-Emona (Ljubljana)-Atrans (Trojane)-Celeia (Celje) Roman Road passed through čŒrni graben, and fortified posts were built by the road: Ad Publicanos at Lukovica, and one at the exit from the valley, at Trojane. In 1720, an important emperor´s decree on the renovation of the Trieste-Vienna road was passed, which was of great importance for the Crni graben valley, since the traffic always somehow influenced life in the valley – in times of peace it meant prosperity, and in wartime more suffering and higher taxes for the local people. In the second half of the 19th century, when the Vienna-Zidani Most-Ljubljana railway was built, the importance of čŒrni graben diminished. But in 1958, when the Ljubljana-Celje main road was built, the traffic through the valley increased again. At the beginning of the century, the area of the Lukovica municipality was known for trade and craft, catering, transport and shoemaking. Fairs were organized for people to trade their produce and stock. The community was lively and developing all the time. The new Lukovica municipality sees its future in the development of trades and business. The area would like to attract small industrial zones, which are being planned in the direct vicinity of the motorway. People are striving to create ecologically clean industries, in accordance with the development of the catering and tourist industries.
