Opis

Cerklje is one of five municipalities founded in 1994 that used to be part of the Kranj municipality (now Naklo, Preddvor, Ĺ enčur, the urban municipality of Kranj, and Cerklje na Gorenjskem). Cerklje covers an area of 78 square kilometres and numbers 6,729 inhabitants. The density of the population is considerably greater in the southern flat part of the region, while it is much lower in the mountainous part of the municipality. In the old municipality of Kranj, Cerklje was already developed as a local supply centre and already had the facilities necessary to function independently. So, after the local government reform, it was evident that in the Gorenjska region Cerklje should gain its independence. The municipality comprises 21 village communities: Trata – Adergas, Velesovo, Praprotna Polica, Pšata, Poženik, Ĺ martno, Zalog, Lahovče, Vopovlje, Spodnji Brnik, Zgornji Brnik, Ĺ tefanja Gora, Ambrož pod Krvavcem, Stiška vas, Ravne, Apno, Ĺ enturška Gora, Sidraž, Sveti Lenart, Grad, and Dvorje. Cerklje na Gorenjskem is an important intersection of routes through the villages below the mountains and on the hillsides of Krvavec. Along the local road leading westwards, there is Strmol castle, which has been transformed into a protocol building. Between the settlements čŒešnjevek and Velesovo, the road turns to the village of Adergas, and from Velesovo it is possible to continue to Visoko and on to Preddvor. If you take the local road from Cerklje northwards, you come to a short valley of the Reka stream, where the road splits two ways – one road goes upwards to the village of Ĺ enturška gora, and then down towards Kamnik, and the other one past the mountain hamlet of Ambrož below Krvavec. If you take the road running parallel to the Reka stream, you will get to the lower station of the Krvavec cable car, and up the steep hillside onto Ĺ tefanja Gora. The municipality of Cerklje na Gornjskem is a local community with a clearly planned development strategy. In its growth and development, it relies on its key advantages, which include: its natural, cultural and historical heritage; its accessibility by car; and its people who are well aware of its advantages and have a clear notion of development. Its location amidst the picturesque meadows and fields with clear streams and mountain ridges is why the residents of Cerklje na Gorenjskem see their future mostly as a tourist destination for even the most demanding visitors.
