Opis |
The municipality is situated in the utmost south-west of Goričko, by the Austrian border, north of Bad Radkersburg. There are three local border crossings that connect the municipality with Austria. According to historical sources, part of the border was drawn in 1208, to separate the Gorni and Dolni Lendava dominion, which, in the south-east, is nowadays the boundary between the municipality of Cankova and the municipality of Tišina. In the east, the municipality borders the municipality of Puconci, in the north the municipality of Rogašovci. The area of the municipality is 31 square kilometres. Cankova is first mentioned in the records dating from 1212, namely as a settlement by a fresh spring. The foundation of the parish in connection with the church of St. Joseph in Cankova in 1754, the beginning of the educational system in 1756, the foundation of fire brigades in 1892, and the kindergarten in 1898, were the basis for further harmonious development of the whole region. As a result, at the turn of the century, Cankova was classified as one of the most advanced small towns in the region, with a highly developed trade and wholesale business. Growth reached its climax in 1910. Nowadays the municipality of Cankova has a fairly well developed basic and general infrastructure to support the standard of living. The construction of the missing elements, especially in terms of public services and remaining infrastructures, will hasten the economic and social development of the area. |
