Opis |
The Bovec region is a mountainous area in the Julian Alps. The winding narrow valleys of the River Soča (with its side valleys of Lepena, Vrsnik, Zadnjica and Zadnja Trenta) and Koritnica (with Bavšica, Možnica and Loška Koritnica) widen at the confluence of the two rivers in the Bovec basin, which soon narrows again at the Srpenica-Žaga and the River Učja valleys. At its bottom end, the Bovec basin is covered with a large area of flat arable land. The municipality borders the Italian municipalities of Tarvisio, Chiusaforte and Resia, as well as the Slovenian municipalities of Kobarid and Kranjska Gora. The Bovec region is accessible over the passes of Predel (1156 m), Vršič (1611 m) and Učja (650 m), or from the south through Tolmin and Kobarid. The centre of the region is Bovec, which lies at 483 metres above sea level. Summers in the valley are warm, and winters are mild. Most of the Bovec region is included in the Triglav National Park. “Bovško” is the land of mysteries and interesting stories. The landscape is so varied because it was formed by a glacier. The long-lasting chemical and physical activities, together with tectonic forces, helped to shape the geological foundations into the mountainous landscape we can see today. The Bovec region is largely untouched, with little industry, clear waters, so nature can show all of its beauty. Due to its central position, Bovec grew into a large and strong settlement. On the one hand, the region depends on the activities and decisions taken on a national level and on the other it is influenced by its position at the meeting point of the Romance, Germanic and Slav cultures. |
